Ingredients
1 package of biscuits (store-bought or homemade)
1 lb ground sausage (halal or turkey sausage, based on preference)
2 cups milk
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 eggs (optional, for binding)
1 cup shredded cheese (optional, for extra creaminess)
Instructions
Prepare the Biscuits: Bake the biscuits according to the package instructions or your homemade recipe. Once baked, cut them into chunks and set aside.
Cook the Sausage: In a skillet, brown the ground sausage over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Ensure it’s fully cooked.
Make the Gravy: Stir the flour into the cooked sausage, then slowly add milk while stirring constantly. Allow the mixture to thicken, then season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Assemble the Casserole: In a greased casserole dish, layer the biscuit chunks. Pour the sausage gravy over the biscuits, ensuring they’re evenly coated. Optionally, pour beaten eggs over the casserole and sprinkle cheese on top.
Bake: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
You can make this casserole ahead of time by assembling it the night before and baking it the next morning.
For a spicier version, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the gravy.
Make sure the sausage is browned well to ensure great flavor in the gravy.
If you’re using store-bought biscuits, you can opt for a high-quality brand for better taste.
