Description

The Flaky Buttery Cruffins Recipe combines the light, tender texture of a muffin with the crisp, buttery layers of a croissant. These decadent pastries are golden on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, making them the perfect treat for breakfast, brunch, or a cozy afternoon snack. Customize them with sweet or savory fillings to make them even more irresistible.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold (for laminating)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough: Mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl. Create a well in the center, then add warm milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until combined into dough.
  • Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
  • Let It Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Laminate the Dough: Roll the dough into a large rectangle, add cold butter, fold it over, and roll again. Repeat this process to create layers.
  • Shape the Cruffins: Roll the dough into a rectangle, brush with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon (optional). Cut into strips and roll into muffin-sized portions.
  • Bake the Cruffins: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the rolls into muffin tins and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Enjoy: Allow the cruffins to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm!

Notes

  • Butter Quality: Use high-quality butter for the best flavor and texture.
  • Chill the Dough: If the dough becomes too soft during lamination, chill it in the fridge for 15-20 minutes.
  • Creative Fillings: Feel free to add chocolate, fruit preserves, or savory fillings like cheese or ham.
