  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

These homemade toaster strudels are flakier, more buttery, and packed with real fruit flavor—way better than store-bought! Made with puff pastry, a delicious fruit filling, and a sweet vanilla glaze, they’re perfect for a quick breakfast or a special weekend treat. Plus, they’re easy to customize with your favorite flavors

Ingredients

Scale

For the Pastry:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (for dusting)
  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)

For the Filling:

  • ½ cup fruit preserves or jam (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, etc.)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

For the Icing:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk or cream
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep:

    • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll & Cut the Puff Pastry:

    • Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the puff pastry.
    • Cut into equal-sized rectangles (about 3×4 inches).
  • Add the Filling:

    • Mix fruit preserves with cornstarch (if using) to prevent leaks.
    • Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of filling onto half of the pastry rectangles, leaving a small border.
  • Seal & Brush:

    • Place another pastry rectangle on top and press edges to seal.
    • Use a fork to crimp the edges for a secure seal.
    • Brush the tops with egg wash for a golden finish.
  • Bake Until Golden:

    • Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
    • Let cool slightly before icing.

  • Make & Drizzle the Icing:

    • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
    • Drizzle over the cooled homemade toaster strudels and serve!

Make Ahead: Assemble and freeze unbaked strudels, then bake fresh when needed!
Customize: Try different fruit fillings or even Nutella, cinnamon sugar, or peanut butter.
