Ingredients
For the Pastry:
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (for dusting)
- 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)
For the Filling:
- ½ cup fruit preserves or jam (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, etc.)
- 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
For the Icing:
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp milk or cream
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat & Prep:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll & Cut the Puff Pastry:
- Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the puff pastry.
- Cut into equal-sized rectangles (about 3×4 inches).
Add the Filling:
- Mix fruit preserves with cornstarch (if using) to prevent leaks.
- Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of filling onto half of the pastry rectangles, leaving a small border.
Seal & Brush:
- Place another pastry rectangle on top and press edges to seal.
- Use a fork to crimp the edges for a secure seal.
- Brush the tops with egg wash for a golden finish.
Bake Until Golden:
- Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
- Let cool slightly before icing.
Make & Drizzle the Icing:
- Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Drizzle over the cooled homemade toaster strudels and serve!
